New D&D Video Game Studio Now Open in Montreal

Article Summary

  • A new video game developer entitled Wizards of the Coast Studios Inc. has officially opened in downtown Montreal.
  • The new studio will be focused exclusively on developing new Dungeons & Dragons video games.
  • It’s not clear what project the studio will be working on first, but there are plans to hire over 200 employees by 2028.
  • Montreal is also home to Invoke Studios, which is also owned by Wizards of the Coast and the developer of the upcoming D&D Warlock video game.

Back in September 2025, Hasbro announced that they were launching a new video game studio in Montreal, Canada with a primary focus on developing new Dungeons & Dragons video games. The studio, which is known as Wizards of the Coast Studios Inc., has now officially opened.

The new 35,000-square-foot studio is expected to hire over 200 employees by 2028 and is being overseen primarily by Dungeons & Dragons VP of Franchise, Dan Ayoub, who is also located in Montreal. According to an official Hasbro press release which quotes Ayoub “this studio will grow to be the largest concentration of video game talent at Hasbro, built on one of the world’s deepest game development ecosystems.”

Notably, Wizards of the Coast has been investing a significant amount of effort into developing new D&D video game titles both in-house and with third-party publishers (although several projects have been cancelled in recent months). Below, we take a closer look at everything we know so far about WotC’s new Montreal studio.

What new D&D video games will the Montreal studio be working on?

So far, it’s not entirely clear what D&D video game projects Wizards of the Coast Studios Inc. will be developing. We do, however, know that they won’t be replacing Invoke Studios, which is also based in Montreal and was purchased in 2019 by Wizards of the Coast. Invoke developed the much-maligned 2021 video game Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance and is now working on the upcoming D&D Warlock video game.

One potential project the new studio may be working on is Baldur’s Gate 4, which former Wizards of the President John Hight confirmed will be happening at some point in the near future after developer Larian Studios announced they would no longer be working on the D&D brand. It’s also possible that the studio may be supporting a number of other D&D video game projects which are currently in various states of development either internally at Hasbro or with third-party studios.

What other D&D video games are in the works?

While we don’t yet know what the new Wizards of the Coast Montreal studio will be working on, there are a number of other D&D video games currently in development, including:

  • Untitled Hasbro Game: Wizards of the Coast has also indicated that an in-house studio at Hasbro is currently developing a currently unnamed D&D game, although little information has been revealed about what it will consist of.
  • Untitled D&D surival sim: In development from Gameloft Montreal, the studio best known for the popular Disney Dreamlight Valley, this new D&D title will be an action-focused survival-life sim set in the Forgotten Realms.
  • Untitled Saber Interactive game: The developers of the popular Space Marine 2 video game are also working on a new Hasbro title that may be D&D related.

Notably, multiple D&D video games have been started and cancelled over the past few years. In fact, in 2023 Wizards of the Coast scrapped five D&D video games. Later, in October 2025 WotC cancelled a co-op D&D multiplayer game entitled Project Baxter that was being developed by Swedish studio Starbreeze Entertainment. And more recently, the company pulled the plug on an action-adventure D&D video game from fledgling studio Giant Skull.

Final Thoughts

Wizards of the Coast has been aggressively focusing on new D&D video game projects following the critical and financial success of Baldur’s Gate 3, so it’s not too surprising that they’re investing heavily in a new studio that will remain under their control. What new D&D games the new Montreal studio will be working on, however, remains to be seen.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this story and will update this page with new information as it’s made available.
